MakeDaysCount-Triennale Brugge
Went on an excursion today with the Brugge exchange students. It was to help us bond with one another and also to have an outdoor learning experience together with our course teacher, Linda. Through this, we have learnt lots of new phrases and words.
What would happen if the 5 million visitors who come yearly to Brugge decided to stay? What would happen to Brugge as it transformed from a quaint
city to a bustling and hectic center. Would Brugge be able to adapt and become an urban
center despite its history?
Triennale Brugge 2015
We started our excursion at 1.30pm. At the train station stands the first piece of Triennials
art: a boxcar to discuss more questions. The Passage Room
invites those who visit or live in Brugge to write down what they dream to
accomplish during their stay. Guests who visited the 1st stop get to fill in a
questionnaire in the form of a voting ballot to express their thoughts on the city,
why they would want to become a citizen and what they plan to do during their
stay. There are nine different languages posted on the walls.
To become the new citizen of Brugge
In the Market Square stands another piece of work, the Diamondscope. This octagonal
mirrored shell focuses on creating an intimate space for
residents and visitors to meet and converse. You can observe the surroundings from the inside while being protected by the safety of mirrored
walls. ( you can see from the inside but people from the outside can't see from the outside ) The Diamondscope brings together the curiosity of visitors and residents
alike.
We were in the Diamondscope. |
Then we have the Begijnhof (The Tree Huts). The Tree Huts is a peaceful platform where the nuns lived. On the edge of the exhibit are signs
that call for total silence and composed behavior.

De ramen. Most of us vote this as the champion. |
It was a platform to ask us to settle ourselves down and listen to the noises from the surroundings. |
Triennale Brugge 2015 is a collection of artworks from different artists. There are altogether 14 outdoor installations, 3 indoor venues, and 32 momentary
activities. We couldn't make it for all the artworks because of the time.
Before we ended our excursion, we had a drink and a sharing session at the Urb Egg cafe. Linda ( our course teacher ) pointed out it's a nice name of the cafe because if you rearrange the letters, you get "B-R-U-G-G-E" .
I'm glad to have this group of people . |
